De lagere functie is de deur waardoor alle figuren van het onbewuste in het bewustzijn komen. Ons bewuste domein is als een kamer met vier deuren, en het is door de vierde deur dat de schaduw, de animus of de anima, en de personificatie van het Zelf binnenkomen \u2013 ML von Franz<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Jungiaans analyticus Vanessa Goodman onderzoekt hoe typeori\u00ebntaties zich verhouden tot levenslange ontwikkeling. Eerder behandelde ze onderwerpen als de midlife-crisis, individuatie en de inferieure functie. In dit artikel bekijkt ze de relatie tussen de inferieure functie en wat Jung de 'ziel' noemde \u2013 de vrouwelijke anima of de mannelijke animus. Het inferieure type. In het vorige artikel zagen we dat de middenfase van het leven vaak een cruciaal begin is van het individuatieproces. In de tweede helft van het leven komen sommige functies die voorheen minder ontwikkeld waren, meer op de voorgrond te staan.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Om individuatie te laten plaatsvinden, moet de \u201cinferieure functie\u201d in iemands leven ge\u00efntegreerd worden. De term inferieure functie verwijst naar de minst ontwikkelde van de vier functionele houdingen. We zouden het ook het inferieure \u201ctype\u201d kunnen noemen. Het inferieure type is zowel \u201c...het grootste kruis van een persoon, als de drager van grote waarde\u201d (ML von Franz, \u201cThe Inferior Function\u201d, 1986).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In individuele gevallen is het soms moeilijk om iemands inferieure type te identificeren. Maar von Franz beschrijft het op een wonderbaarlijk eenvoudige manier: "Waar voelt hij dat hij steeds zijn hoofd stoot tegen obstakels en vreselijk lijdt?" (ibid).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Het inferieure type is onlosmakelijk verbonden met de schaduw en de ziel (de onbewuste contra-seksuele aspecten van de psyche die Jung animus of anima noemde).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jung postuleerde dat de onbewuste animus of anima een compenserende en tegengestelde rol speelt ten opzichte van een mannelijke of vrouwelijke persoonlijkheid. Als de persoonlijkheid mannelijk is, dan is de ziel vrouwelijk (anima). Als de persoonlijkheid vrouwelijk is, dan neemt de ziel mannelijke eigenschappen aan (animus). Ze kunnen worden gezien als Logos en Eros.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In dromen ontdekken mensen vaak aspecten van het inferieure type en de bijbehorende anima of animus. Vrouwen die voornamelijk extravert geori\u00ebnteerd zijn, kunnen bijvoorbeeld dromen van zeer intellectuele mannen, die zowel een inferieur, introvert denkpatroon als een mannelijke animus belichamen.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jung bestudeerde een reeks dromen van Wolfgang Pauli, de Nobelprijswinnende natuurkundige. Pauli had een droom waarin hij de lift in een hotel nam; hij was een donkere vrouw op een verdieping lager vergeten. Jung merkt op dat Pauli: "...de donkere vrouw, dat wil zeggen de anima die staat voor de taboefunctie, niet beneden, dat wil zeggen in het onbewuste, had moeten laten wachten..." (CW 12, par. 201).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Pauli was een briljante wetenschapper die Jung raadpleegde vanwege acute relatieproblemen en grillig gedrag. Met een zeer scherp theoretisch intellect was zijn inferieure type waarschijnlijk extraverte gevoelens. Door middel van analyse was hij beter in staat zijn anima en zijn inferieure type te integreren.<\/p>\n
