Bringing Jung’s Types Home to Jung

Master Jung’s Original Eight Types

Go beyond labels. Learn to guide clients toward psychological wholeness using Carl Jung’s “compass” of psychological type orientations. Jung’s original type model is a simple, nuanced paradigm for understanding how people are naturally oriented.

“You see, you get your orientation, you get your bearings, in the chaotic abundance of impressions through the four functions, these four aspects of total human orientation. If you can tell me any other aspect by which you get oriented, I am grateful. I haven’t found more and I tried.” (Jung on Elementary Psychology, p. 103, 104)

The Gifts Compass Consultant Training

This training shows you how to apply Jung’s types in professional practice. Since our first training cohort in 2012, we have trained professional practitioners on five continents in the use of Jung’s types, enabling them to guide clients toward richer self-understanding and deeper personal development more effectively.

From the inception of our training, we have remained close to Jungian headwaters, perpetually confirming that our work is highly congruent with Jung’s psychology.

I would not for anything dispense with this compass on my psychological voyages of discovery. — C. G. Jung

What Jungian Analysts Are Saying

“Gifts Compass provides a highly developed and theoretically well-founded tool that allows for an understanding of typology which is far more accurate than other typology models. The Gifts Compass Inventory is comprehensively based on Jung’s writings and follows his psychological understanding of inner and outer characteristics, which implies a necessary understanding of often contradictory preferences. Especially the link to Jung’s theories of the individuation process provides a dynamic model which is highly useful when considering developmental processes.”

Misser Berg

Diplomate Jungian Analyst, Denmark. President of the International Association for Analytical Psychology. Director of Training at the C.G. Jung Institute, Copenhagen; Denmark

“Gifts Compass has the outstanding merit of staying close to Jung’s original intention of linking psychological type theory to the individuation process. It is a brilliant contribution to the field of typological theory and practice. Of all the attempts to apply psychological type theory to models of counseling and coaching, this is by far the best.”

Murray Stein

Ph.D., Diplomate Jungian Analyst, Switzerland/U.S. Former President of the International Association of Analytical Psychology; former President of the International School of Analytical Psychology. Author of Jung’s Map of the Soul and many others.

How Will You Benefit?

Understand Individuals at a Deeper Level

Move beyond surface-level type identification to understand the unique psychological dynamics unfolding in each person. You’ll learn to recognize how all eight types combine within individuals to create distinctive psychological “melodies.”

The Gifts Compass Inventory® (GCI) is the first fully validated instrument in over 100 years that depicts Jung’s original eight-type model, including both conscious and unconscious dynamics. There are over 40,000 possible ways for the eight types to align within an individual. The GCI depicts them all.

Guide Authentic Personal Development

The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.—C. G. Jung

Jung’s psychology is fundamentally about personal transformation toward the unification of the whole, unique person. Help clients understand not just how they are gifted, but who they’re becoming.

The GCI Compass

The meaning and purpose of the process [of individuation] is the realization, in all aspects, of the personality originally hidden away in the embryonic germ-plasm; the production and unfolding of the original, potential wholeness. (CW 7, §186)

Training Format

The Training occurs in two parts.

Part I: GCI Consultant Training: Jung’s type theory in consciousness

The films:

Part II: GCI Advanced Advisor Training: type dynamics from the unconscious & the process of individuation.

Both programs consist of eight 2-hour online sessions with faculty for a deep exploration of Jung’s ideas. Theory comes alive through dialogue, case examples, and shared experiences.

You’ll explore five films carefully selected to illuminate how Jung’s eight types manifest in human behavior, relationships, and development. Film becomes a laboratory for recognizing type dynamics, and also the central theme of Jung’s work: the “individuation” of unique persons.

Online lectures and assigned readings prepare you for the theoretical sessions.

Small-group meetups help solidify your understanding before and after each session.

My typology is far rather a critical apparatus serving to sort out and organize the welter of empirical material, but not in any sense to stick labels on people at first sight.— C.G. Jung

This training teaches you to work with the living dynamics of the psyche—not to put people in boxes, but to understand the developmental process unfolding within them.
